Weekly Schedule

1st Week General information about the course: its methodology and sources. An overview of constitutionalism movements around the world and the general framework of constitutional order.
2nd Week Constitutional documents in the Ottoman Empire. The Kanun-i Esasi and the 1909 constitutional amendments.
3rd Week The 1921 Constitution (Teşkilat-ı Esasiye Kanunu). The 1924 Constitution and its amendments. The transition to multi-party political life.
4th Week The making of the 1961 Constitution and the innovations it introduced.
5th Week The drafting of the 1982 Constitution, its main characteristics and systematic structure.
6th Week The Preamble of the Constitution and fundamental principles.
7th Week Fundamental principles and fundamental rights and freedoms.
8th Week The structure and functioning of the legislative branch. Elections and political parties.
9th Week Duties and powers of the legislative branch.
10th Week The election, duties and powers of the President.
11th Week Ministries and the functioning of the executive branch.
12th Week Regulatory acts of the executive and states of emergency procedures.
13th Week The Turkish judicial system and constitutional review.
14th Week Constitutional amendments.
